Kinross Paracatu – Paracatu Expansion Project
Kinross Gold is a gold mining company focused on delivering value through operational excellence, balance sheet strength, disciplined growth, and responsible mining with a portfolio of mines and projects in the United States, Brazil, Chile, Ghana, Mauritania, and Russia.
Client Needs: The Paracatu Expansion Project involved a multiple stage retrofit to the existing Plant 2 grinding circuit of a Brazilian gold mine to increase product throughput and gold recovery. This included two new 15 MW ball mills to increase production to 61 million t/a at a 75μm grind as the plant moved into progressively harder ore and a tailings desulphurization circuit to comply with new environmental regulations.
Developed an aggressive turnover strategy as well as new standard procedures for mechanical completion testing, pre-operational verification and load testing for installed process and utility systems. This was accomplished by developing manpower forecast requirements, by working with construction management personnel to ensure the mechanical completion schedule was both feasible and in line with the required start-up sequencing, and by providing ongoing support to site.
Location: Minas Gerais, Brazil
Project Phases: Detailed Design Engineering Construction & Commissioning
Results: Allowed the owner to meet their desired production deadlines, resulting in a smooth mechanical completion and turnover process in-line with the required start-up sequencing.
